Editorial Reviews

“This is an inspiring book that illuminates the profundity of Buddhism in an undiluted fashion using contemporary language. Reading it feels like hearing the pure voices of awakened masters of the past.”
Anam Thubten Rinpoche, author of Choosing Compassion

“Khenpo Sherab Sangpo is one of the great living masters of the Tibetan tradition. It is rare to find such deep learning and profound meditative experience in a single person. The Heart of Tibetan Buddhism, true to its title, distills the key points of the entire Buddhist path. I highly recommend this book to anyone with a sincere interest in the Buddhist approach to awakening.”
Cortland Dahl, author of Entrance to the Great Perfection

“Khenpo Sherab Sangpo skillfully weaves together his teachers’ instructions, wisdom gleaned from Indian and Tibetan texts, and his own rich life experience to present a concise yet remarkably complete guide to the Buddhist path. He not only explains the Dharma with clarity, warmth, and insight but includes easy-to-follow meditation instructions. His analysis of birth, death, and the Bardo is among the best I have read, and the book as a whole is a fresh and compelling introduction to Tibetan Buddhist thought and practice.”
Roger Jackson, author of Rebirth

To meditate on self-awareness, just be aware of your mind—without any opinions or beliefs. If you do that, your thoughts will naturally disappear. Just watch—be aware. Focus simply on what is there. If while meditating you recognize that you are following your thoughts, be aware of that. Let it go. If you don’t follow your thoughts, you’ll notice that your mind is calm and relaxed—then, be there. Don’t look for something special. Just be aware of everything as it is. By doing that again and again, you’ll be self-aware and discover your buddha nature—your inner peace. This is a very simple meditation, but I find it to be profound. And, if you’re lucky, you’ll discover your true nature of mind.
