Greetings Bodhicitta Sangha,

I’m writing to you about the continuation of the Bodhicitta Sangha Book Group this fall. Last year we read Words of My Perfect Teacher by Patrül Rinpoché. This year we will be continuing with another great foundational book, Shantideva’s The Way of the Bodhisattva. This book was also at the heart of Patrül Rinpoché’s teaching, and one that he recommended his students study many times over. I would like to welcome anyone in the Sangha to the group, regardless of where you are in your practice, or how many times you’ve read this great work.

If you haven’t read it before, The Way of the Bodhisattva is written in beautiful prose and reads more like a poem than a dense book of teaching. It mainly focuses on the cultivation and enhancement of bodhicitta, its ten chapters systematically addressing each stage or aspect of this path. We will use the below texts. This first is the preferred translation that retains the beauty and poetry of the original text. In the second, for his commentary, Kunzang Pelden has compiled the pith instructions of his teacher Patrül Rinpoché, who taught extensively on this work. It is a rich and deep commentary. Both are available in Kindle and paper versions.

For this book, I intend to slow the pace of reading significantly. We will not be concerned about how long it takes us to get through it. So, small bites of the teaching and commentary, with meetings once a month. We may also take some of our time together to meditate on the text. I hope you will consider joining us for this group. I’d ask, however, that before joining you seriously consider whether you will be able to maintain the commitment before signing up. In this book group, we are Sangha for each other, so presence is important. This being said, I also know that life occasionally intervenes and exceptions always happen. In closing, I will say that this offering requires a sustained minimum of six participants in order to continue.

This group won’t start until October. It will meet monthly on a day/time that will be determined in the coming weeks. To add your name to the list of those interested please email me at [email protected].

I look forward to seeing some of you this fall!

🙏🏽 Blessings,

Ed Colón
