TOPIC: In this one-day, Saturday retreat, Khenpo Sherab Sangpo will guide students in the theory and practice of Phowa according to the Nyingma transmission lineage. Periods of teaching will be alternated with guided meditation and Phowa practice. The weekend retreat will conclude with a long-life empowerment.

The Phowa practices are some of the most powerful related to the moment of death. Phowa means “transference of consciousness” and it is the Tibetan Buddhist method for achieving a better rebirth or, in some cases, enlightenment at the moment of death. In preparing for death, students are also empowered to lead a more mindful and awakened life on a daily basis; therefore the benefits of the Phowa teachings are innumerable.

Retreat includes reading transmission, alternating periods of guided meditation and teachings, and breaks for lunch and tea.

TEACHER: Khenpo Sherab Sangpo has been a monk since age 7 and has trained with some of the greatest meditation masters of Tibet. In addition to spending 4 years meditating in solitary retreat, he has spent nearly 20 years contemplating the profound philosophies of the Buddhist tradition. He teaches at monasteries in Tibet, Nepal and meditation centers in the United States and abroad.
