This teaching highlights why taking refuge in the Three Jewels and generating bodhicitta are essential. Taking refuge is the foundation of the entire path, the basis of all vows, and the source of all virtues. Generating bodhicitta is the essential foundation for attaining complete Buddhahood and the source of all excellent qualities in both cyclic existence and liberation.
