Khenpo Sherab Sangpo, a professor of Tibetan Buddhism and meditation teacher at Bodhicitta Sangha | Heart of Enlightenment Institute in Minneapolis, teaches his students about the importance on relying on the “Five Powers” or “Five Strengths” to help bodhicitta, the compassionate mind of awakening, to arise in their minds and hearts. In order to increase our capacity to mindfully help others, we need to resolve to do so (power of resolution), become familiar (power of familiarization) with meditating on compassion, cultivate the seeds of mindfulness (power of positive seed), renounce negative actions (power of renunciation) and aspire (power of aspiration) never to abandon other sentient beings until our bodhicitta manifests to its full capacity via enlightenment. As Khenpo Sherab Sangpo teaches these five aspects of bodhicitta mind are the essence of our life and give meaning to it. The teaching ends with a guided meditation using three stages of breath as a support to rest in the present moment and nature of mind.
