He is a monk and professor (Khenpo) of Tibetan Buddhism. Khen Rinpoche began his studies in Tibet with the famed master Petsé Rinpoche (Pema Tsewang Rinpoche), with whom he studied for over twenty years. He became a monk at the age of seven at Gyalwa Phukhang Monastery, a branch of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche’s Sechen Monastery. Petsé Rinpoche appointed him as his personal teaching assistant when Khenpo was only 19. For years, he acted as his master’s “kyorpon,” a teaching assistant who leads review sessions that supplement the main class being taught. In the process, he became one of the most renowned Khenpos in Eastern Tibet, a “khenpo” being a formally recognized master of Buddhist philosophy.

Bodhicitta, the supreme mind of enlightenment, has a very profound meaning. The essence of Bodhicitta basically means having a good, kind heart. Another meaning is that you help others when you are able. If you are not able to help, you refrain from causing them harm and refrain from having negative emotions towards them. (…) Without Bodhicitta, even if you practice a lot, it will not be beneficial for you or anyone else. So the first step in your practice should be to give rise to Bodhicitta. Bodhicitta is the foundation and most important principle of the entire Mahayana path.
